  • This was cool. The song kind of gave me vibes of what a gen 2 or gen 3 intro of "The Smiling Critters" tv show would sound like.

  • I think this is pretty well done, but I'm worried you're doing all this without permission from the original creator (unless you are them; I don't know). I've seen another good series get ruined because someone reported it; would hate to see the same with all this.

What do you mean "you're doing all this without permission from the original creator"? Doing what, posting here? How can this affect the project as a whole?

I think they're allowed to do this because it falls under that parody copyright law (can't remember the exact name) Plus it isn't hurting anybody. Somebody made two fan made episodes for smiling critters on YouTube and didn't get in trouble. That creative parody law is what allows creators to make songs about these characters, too.

    Do you mean "Fair Use?"

I feel like people nowdays have no idea what "parody" really means.
Taking pikachu from pokemon and making animation from it is not parody.
Making chinpokomon that has original creature named lambtron, is parody, when it's clear to viewer that it's not pokemon, but it's clearly made to poke fun and refer to pokemon.

With this video, it's literally the exact same characters from the source material, it's not parody, it's unofficial fan project. It's technically illegal.
However with lot of media, especially video games, sometimes developer or publisher might have some sort of ToS where they state that fan projects are fine and they might even encourage them as it is essentially free marketing for them.

Also how these things work is that you can't have "fair use", it's legal protection if you are taken into court and in the court they weight four pillars to see if the usage has been fair use or not. Ideally you should not be relying on fair use, but have permission or license from copyright holder to use their copyrighted material.
Initial step is that copyright holder files DMCA takedown for their copyrighted material for it to be taken down and only if creator counterclaims it goes into court. e621 is DMCA compliant, being US based website, so if the poppy playtime owner files DMCA here or on youtube, these will be taken down immidiately.
