  • Because the dev period started in 2015 and regardless of what Sakurai wanted, the Pokemon Company had the sayso of what pokemon would be included and of the concept art of the three starters in Sun/moon, incineroar had the most potential if all you did was look at pictures.

Due to this, any pokemon of a previous gen was never going to show up and they also wouldn't get any fan feedback on which of the three starters were ACTUALLY adored by the fans.

A similar thing happened with Greninja being included in Smash 4, but the fan favorite was Delphox.

It was? I remember everyone loving Greninja right out the gate and hating Delphox for ruining Braixen.

The only "ruining" delphox did was having fur down it's legs in a mirror of a wizard gown (which was the basis of Braizen and Delphox, being Fire/psychic and a student mage and a master mage) and the people who have no imagination went "ooga booga where my legs at".

That said, at the end of the day the fire line was much more liked than the water line as a whole. Greninja was only marginally more liked than Chesnaught with the overall perception of it being "meh". That didn't stop the pokemon company from pushing it as hard as possible.

Again, the pokemon Company made the pick, not sakurai, and as is obvious with the obsession of pokemon lets go and the exceedingly poor roster of pokken, the pokemon company doesn't know what the fans actually want because they refuse to listen to anyone but the anime crowd, which, lets face it, has been a blight on pokemon as a whole.

GOLDEEN IS STILL THE "USELESS" POKEBALL SUMMON IN SMASH, NOT MAGIKARP. That is proof enough of how out of touch they are.

Erm, dunno what places you were looking. From what I could tell, people loved Greninja. And Delphox was overshadowed by Braixen before the Pokken event.

Also, dude, quit acting like you speak for everyone.

I never once stated that I speak for everyone. I'm never so arrogant to say that.

What I will do is state what I've seen.

Greninja discussion was moderate. It was seen as decently practical due to water shuriken having priority, thus usable in tournament play. It wasn't hated but it also didn't have the ground it was on worshiped.

The love of braixen and "dislike" of delphox stems strictly from the fetish crowd. Anyone who favored the idea of a braixen being a female pop idol wanna-be very clearly never had one in the actual game.

Braixen is calm, reserved, and acts like a student of the arts, not a prissy lady pop idol.

Delphox is the progression of the wizard angle and destroys the fan fiction of the pop idol, not just by the fur covering the legs but the full mannerisms, coming off more like a pokemon version of Yen Sid. Anyone who actually played the games rose it into delphox and appreciated the full strength of a final form starter as anyone sticking to a non-final form pokemon was willingly handicapping themselves.

The anime is scraping the fringe of people who don't play games and played up the female braixen pop idol which then went on to be in pokken, which was to the pleasure of people with their hands in their pants (or need I remind you what the winner of the pokken tournament said?) and much to the rage of the people who actually play games and waned a roster of something other than the same 6 pokemon in everything and forced anime promotion.
