April 10th: The bill has been vetoed!
April 2nd: The politicians in Arizona are about to sign into law a bill that would mandate sites like e621 to either impose age verification on all users or be at a risk of lawsuits. Such system would be required to go through third party vendors, who in turn must go through a government database to verify every user's age. This is not only a major violation of privacy, but it also opens up a very real danger of identity theft through phishing schemes and other methods, not to mention that we would not be able to control any of that information to make sure it is permanently deleted after age verification is complete.
Unfortunately, Arizona is the state out of which e621 operates, which means that this law will almost certainly affect us if it is to pass. If want to help us ensure that this site can continue to serve you without being required to know who you are, please ask the Arizona governor to veto this bill.
Please, help us get the word out by letting others know about this issue.

MemberOut of all the sequels DreamWorks kept pumping out, they really slept on this one
ShadowMarine
MemberIn fairness, what would they even do? First one wrapped up pretty nicely.
Okko
MemberThe animals rise up, Planet of The Apes style.

MemberThat's never the case when it comes to sequels, they pulled the Shrek sequels out of their ass didn't they? And the KFP sequels were pretty solid so I'm sure they can come up with something
That's a good start, they could meet other animal groups from other suburbs just like them

MemberDreamworks was really outta their mind on that one. Madagascar and Shrek got everything Over The Hedge deserved. I will never let it go.

MemberI love Vincent. He's such a hot bear, especially in bondage.

MemberFrom what I have read, Over the Hedge didn't turn a big enough profit to justify a sequel. For it's time, Over the Hedge was on the lower end of DreamWorks films in terms of box office performance. It came out during a time when the Shrek and Madagascar films generated millions more in revenue. DreamWorks didn't want to risk losing money on another Over the Hedge film. I loved the movie as a kid and would've been interested to see how the creators could've expanded the Over the Hedge universe. At the same time, I thought that the film we got tied up all the loose ends and didn't leave much room for a sequel. I look at the video game (where Dwayne and Gladys seek revenge on the animals) as the sequel we never got.

MemberWell Shrek actually had ALOT more to go off of. It's literally an entire universe full of fairy tales, so of course they can make multiple movies with all that resource.

MemberThe only thing in Over the Hedge that could've hinted at a potential sequel was when RJ pulled out a map of the suburban community, which labeled the small plot of forest the animals lived in as "Future Development" (snapshot below). I've watched this film multiple times and one thing that stuck out to me was how the creators never directly addressed this detail. The animals resolved their short-term problem of finding enough food to survive but there's the long-term problem of likely losing their home. A sequel could've touched on that, with new characters and the existing ones building their chemistry. Perhaps it's implied that when Gladys got arrested and is presumably no longer the head of the Home Owners Association, the plan to demolish the remainder of the forest was abandoned (since she was probably instrumental in demolishing much of the forest to build homes).
