This brings back so many 'Fond' memories of my child/young adulthood.

Yeah I dealt with this before. The best and worst friends are always the ones who don't want to be burdens to other people. You see them suffering, but they figure "Things could be worse." and just shut others out to the point where you have to force help onto them or watch them self-destruct. I may find most people annoying, but I'd rather castrate myself with a rusty butter knife before I let any of my friends suffer outright.
