Giant oversized model rifles like that do exist. I don't know what they're called, but they're for the purpose of teaching how to clean/assemble/operate the real versions.

Yeah, I can confirm that. I guess this happens in every army in the world. I saw one buddy one time that lost his locker key and he kept carring a giant wooden key for the rest of the week.

the oversized versions are didactic models
there are also cut away didactic weapons, which are regualr off the shelf rifles that have been cut in to show the mechanisms
