'Mereliah's Boon'

Drakkonids were born as mistakes in the process of interbreeding two completely different species together. Only through the help of dragons and their magic was this even possible. Sometimes the magic essence of the dragon would take over too strongly and a Drakkonid like Kanya would pop out, but most times the process worked as intended and a combination of the two original DNA donors is conceived and the couple happily raises their child formed by their combined love. Dragons were arbiters over this process, being the primary link in making it work, and they took great pride and joy in making sure the sons and daughters of Mereliah found love and happiness regardless of their species and what they were created as. It was one of the dragons' many duties to their creator.

Dragons have long since disappeared from the world and the only remnants of this conception process are the drakkonids that were left behind. Blessed (or cursed?) with long life and the inability to procreate, Kanya and others are the only orators of this romantic rite between married couples back in an age that history scarcely remembers. Seeing as none of the drakkonids were alive at their creation, theories abounded on how this actually worked. The most popular theory was that since a single dragon could assist the entire process, it was believed that they could change their corporeal forms. They were not restricted to just one sex, but were of both and neither at the same time. They would take the seed into themselves from the male through intercourse, swap their forms, and then deposit the dragon-infused seed into the female, also through intercourse. The female's eggs would then accept the magically changed seed and produce viable offspring that wouldn't be possible otherwise. Still, despite this popular theory among others, nothing could truly be proven since dragons no longer exist. At least... that's what people think...

Special thanks to Nate for supplying the male 'parent' in this theory: https://www.furaffinity.net/user/nathanpwinchester/
