Twilight failed to magically create a lasting cutie mark on Applebloom in Call of the Cutie. It wouldn't as nice results, but I guess this cruder method could work...

My memory of that episode is not entirely clear, but yours seems to be even more off, i think you need to rewatch that episode cause twilight had nothing to do with that.

Twilight was involved. Apple Bloom pleaded for Twilight to use her magic to make her cutie mark appear but none of the marks stayed. They were in the kitchen of Sugar Cube Corner at Diamond Tiaras cutecinara.

He's half right. Twilight did in fact attempt to give Applebloom a mark, however no mark stayed and instead they all faded away. It was after Applebloom visited Zecora and made a potion there that she got the Cutie Pox.
