I mean, I feel like the comic has ALSO hinted that Natani is bi/pan, but also VERY averse to romantic connection because of the whole gender thing and general unease about being close to people thing.

Literally, Tom spat on these words with what he is doing with Natani now in the comic. She deserved a better plot, not the stupid crap she has now

I'd say his plot has been perfectly in character. He's more accepting of being feminine (his current relationship with Keith, generally being less defensive about people knowing his birth sex, etc), but he's ALSO spent a long time as "one of the boys" with his friends, AND is implied to have always been a tomboy, even BEFORE the soul link, so he's more at ease with being masculine because it's what he's been doing for so long
