It's just desensitization. Some things that we consider perfectly acceptable now would have been terribly disturbing a hundred years ago.

I doubt it, concerning snuff and vore becoming acceptable kinks. What is considered attractive and acceptable is tied much more to economics and social ideals than you seem to believe.
Having lots of children to carry on traditions, fight in wars and do manual labor (and the subsequent push back against birth control and abortion) is tied to the idea of social darwinism and the idea of the nation-state's strength reflecting the strength of "a people". As is naturally the emphasis on physical fitness.
Before these modern nationalist and social darwinian ideas took root though into the 19th century being "pleasantly plump" was a sign of prosperity, wealth and relative health since you obviously didn't have to work in a field all day.

Consider why being unhealthily, for most people unattainably, thin is sought as the ideal in this country. First of all- It drives economic growth, just sit down to watch TV for 2 hours and see if you can count how many commercials come on telling you you're too fat, too ugly, you have bad skin, your teeth aren't white enough etc. etc. etc. Giving people unattainable body ideals makes them buy more products. Its the same reason clothing fashion changes so often, so people will buy new clothes they don't need. If people are happy about the way they look, they won't be out buying products to look more like they think they should.
Snuff and vore however actually involve killing or permanently disabling people, unlike BDSM which usually leaves no visible scars or impairments for when you go out and about to work etc. Vore/snuff is not something I would expect to become acceptable unless there was a huge, huge overpopulation problem or something if even then.

Ok, did you say unattainable, being thin is not unattainable its difficult yeah, that is if you've started to gain weight you probably will KEEP gaining weight, our government provides us with too many avenues of weight gain with addictive fast food, easy cook meals at the store etc. Many of us can't have a personal farm anymore because our property isn't big enough to hold it and we don't have the time to take care of it. Call it conspiracy theory or what have you, but to quote George Carlin "The game is rigged, the tables are turned... and nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care." They've planned this out and soon we're going to get even worse, we need to stop concentrating on money and start concentrating on genetic engineering, that way people can see at the age of 80+ veterans can have their limbs back and the media can latch onto christian shitstorms. Personally, I would be entertained. And shut the fuck up to the next person that says tl;dr.

It's not the government which provides those things, its private corporations. In fact government regulations try to limit the amount of harm fast food and other "food" can do to us. Do you really think these corporations would tell you how many fucking excess calories and chemicals are in their products if they weren't forced to by law? Hell no.

Not real snuff obviously, by that point I'm sure VR will have reached the point where people can feel like they are killing or being killed without actually having anyone harmed in the process. It's just about achieving a kinky thrill.
