The ice creature is an Ice Bori, who seems to have mistaken the absol Arianna as another Bori xD
The Ice Bori and the Bori itself were actually released as part of the site plot back in 2004 - turns out Hannah freed the race that were frozen for their safety!
Until about 2018, an Ice Bori was one of the most sought after/rarest pets on Neopets - "there was only one way to turn your Neopet into an Ice Bori: the toolbar Bori special. The special was available towards the end of September 2004 and required that you downloaded a Yahoo toolbar."
I actually remember all of this happening and I think I had an Ice bori myself but probably pounded it back in 2004 xD I vividly remember the toolbar though and that it would flash and you could get free items by clicking the flashing bit
After 2018, you have the option once per year to create a pet + colour combo of your choice using Premium. "This perk offers the ability to change the species of one of your existing Neopets to another species. By default, the colour will be unchanged, but there's one small caveat: if the current colour of your Neopet doesn't exist for the new species, you are able to select a new colour from the list of available options for that species, with no restrictions." This of course made the value of the Ice bori go down somewhat!

When Ari mentioned they wanted to do something to do with Hannah and exploring I was SO STOKED!
I'm so happy with how this comic came out too :D

For those who aren't familiar with Neopets lore, the 'squirrel' (species is called an Usul) is a character from the Neopets plots back in the day!
She's called Hannah and is a well known explorer and featured in two games 'Hannah and the Ice caves' and 'Hannah and the Pirate Caves'!
