It also depends on the kind of chocolate they eat. Regular milk chocolate, found in a lot of candy (M&Ms and Hershey), is fine for the most part. You begin to run into problems when a dog gets a hold of things like dark chocolate and baker's chocolate, too much of which can cause toxicity problems in dogs, which can lead to death. I've also noticed that dogs (at least mine couldn't) can't have maple syrup, as it would lead to sickness, then vomiting.

I thought it was a reference to the movie Pokemon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. Yah know, when Ash gave Lucario the chocolate?
