Description

"Talking to the Ex"
Flora and Sythe chat about old times. Very very old times, from our perspective. 12 YEARS since they last met in the comic!

Sketch of 1008th page of TwoKinds.

Transcript

Flora: Are… you okay, Ms. Reni?

Reni: Yes. I’m fine. Only a little winded. (And a little embarrassed about that landing) I’m just going to lie here for a while.

Flora: I saw a stream nearby. I’ll get a bag and be back.

Sythe: Flora!

Flora: Huh?

Flora: Oh… it’s you. Hey.

Sythe: Y-yeah, hey! How’s it going? Been a while.

Flora: I gotta get some water.

Sythe: Flora, wait! Please.

Trace: Oh, right! That’s what your name was.

Red: Yeah, like the plant.

Sythe: I’m sorry. I know we didn’t part on the best of terms-

Flora: You caused assassins to come after us.

Sythe: That… was my uncle’s fault. Look, I just wanted to tell you I understand now. Our marriage wasn’t meant to be, and you weren’t wrong to run away from it. I’m glad to see you’re okay. It looks like you’re-

Sythe: Like… you’re…

  • Tom has given us too much information by making Red say "Yeah, like the plant". I looked up plant names and found the name "Ren" which means Lotus, could this maybe be his actual name or is it just a coincidence? It would explain why he gets ticked off at Sythe for calling him Red.

Guys, you're forgetting this is a fantasy world that could have all sorts of made-up plants with all sorts of made-up names. This is likely why he said that, because without having any kind of list of plants in this world, he may as well have told us nothing at all.

Except Flora is also a name people use. And let's not mention all the other very human names, Maren, Karen etc.

Not saying that some real-world plants and animals don't exist too, just saying that plenty of made up ones can also exist.

  • Ren is a good potential name.

However I would like to throw my own hat into the ring as to our mysterious redhead's name.

If you'll notice each and every name used is English, and more specifically any name not a dragon is typically English objects/names/etc.

Ren is actually technically taken also with the dragon Reni.

There's a theme to his naming. Also take into account Mike and Evals. Evals is slave backwards. Another english word used as a name.

At the moment I'd like to propose his name is in fact Herb. I was originally going with Basil...but then I began to wonder that perhaps 'like the plant' wasn't referring to a plant at all. He's referring as to how it is spelled and sounds.

It's very likely we're all thinking too literally about this.
